Plumbers & Steamfitters Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee Local Union #81

Apprenticeships

The Plumbers & Steamfitters Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) Local Union (LU) #81 offers a mix of classroom instruction and paid, on-the-job training through a five-year program that equips apprentices with the skills needed to pursue careers in the offshore wind industry. With training centers in Syracuse, Ithaca, Oswego, and Gouverneur, apprentices gain expertise in plumbing, steamfitting, pipefitting, HVAC, and related trades, as well as specialized instruction in pipe welding, medical gas certification, heat pump installation and design, and journeyman upgrading classes. These skills are essential for the construction, installation, and maintenance of offshore wind infrastructure, including occupations such as pipefitters, welders, technicians, plumbers, and/or construction and maintenance technicians for offshore wind platforms. Graduates become qualified journey-persons, prepared for long-term careers that may support offshore wind development. The Plumbers & Steamfitters JATC LU #81 is an active sponsor of New York State Department of Labor’s registered Plumber & Steamfitter apprenticeship program.
