Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW)

Direct Entry Programs

Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) prepares women for careers in the building and construction trades, public utilities, transportation, green jobs, and building maintenance and operations industries. NEW offers two training programs which prepare participants for work in the building and construction trades and provide hands-on training experience with tools and materials. Blue Collar Prep (BCP) is a seven-week, full-time program with day-time classes. NEW at Night (NAN) is a nine-week program held on nights and weekends. Upon completion of either program, participants will be prepared to enter into the workforce or pursue union apprenticeships in the building and construction trades.

NEW is also a member of The Apprenticeship Readiness Collective (ARC), an initiative working to drive union apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship recruitment efforts directly to minority communities in New York City. NEW is joined in the collective by The Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills, Inc., NY Helmets to Hardhats (H2H), and Pathways to Apprenticeship (P2A).
