Apprenticeships
Through partnership with the Upstate New York Laborers’ Training Center, Laborers International Union Local 1822 (Laborers 1822) offers a mix of classroom instruction and paid, on-the-job training, equipping apprentices with the skills needed to pursue careers in the offshore wind industry. Apprentices complete core work skills training in areas such as site preparation, blueprint reading, job site safety, scaffold erection, equipment operation, and material handling. In addition to core training, apprentices may complete one or more specialized concentrations, including building construction, heavy/highway construction, masonry tending, demolition, pipeline work, tunneling, environmental remediation, and landscaping. Graduates become qualified journey-persons, prepared for long term careers that may support offshore wind development. Laborers Local 1822 is a New York State Department of Labor registered provider of apprenticeships for skilled construction craft laborers.
