Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the New York City District Council of Carpenters

Apprenticeships

The Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee for the New York City District Council of Carpenters offers a mix of classroom instruction and paid, on-the-job training, equipping apprentices with the skills needed to pursue careers in the offshore wind industry. Through the New York City District Council of Carpenters Training Center, apprentices can enroll in six NYSDOL-registered programs: General Building Carpenter, Dock Builder/Timberman, Millwright, Cabinet Maker, High Rise Concrete Carpenter, and Floor Coverer. All programs are four years in length, except the Cabinet Maker program, which is five years.

Apprentices gain expertise in areas such as blueprint reading, drywall installation, concrete formwork, welding, framing, steam turbine generator installation, and health and safety practices. These skills are directly applicable to offshore wind component assembly, turbine construction, and related infrastructure work. When combined with specialized certifications such as those from the Global Wind Organization (GWO), graduates are well-positioned to support offshore wind projects. Graduates become qualified journey-persons, prepared for long-term careers that may support offshore wind infrastructure development.
