Training Facilities
Alfred State College offers multiple degrees related to offshore wind, including an Electrical Construction and Maintenance Electrician program, which allows students to design and install photovoltaic systems and wind turbine systems. Additionally, Alfred State College recently received funding from NYSERDA which will be used to support student internships and fund short course training programs related to the renewable energy and electric utilities fields.
The College also offers a two year degree in Welding Technology, a high-tech program focused on welding processes performed in all positions. By the second year, students will have the opportunity to complete AWS Level II standards for advanced welder and expert welder. Occupational opportunities include industrial welder, steel construction, equipment repair, fabrication welder, structural welder, etc. The welding and electrical programs at Alfred College are planned for further expansion, with a focus on skills and workforce development training towards the offshore wind power production field. The college is partnering with Boards of Cooperative Educational Services pipeline programs to reach a wide range of students with these new expanded programs.
